Purpose of the Job

Support the Track Design Manager in his obligation in managing and implementing the Design and Built of Track. Liaise with the Trackwork Design team in India in providing them with local/site data, as well as with interface information.

Collaborators : System Engineering, Trackwork, POS and OCS Technical Manager, Civil partners

Engineering team system wide and transverse engineering, including structural calculation.

Project Manager, Sourcing, Construction, Quality teams and Trackwork Technical Manager

Customer, Client consultant, Professional Engineers.

CW consultants and contractors.

Interfacing sub-systems (Rolling Stock, OCS, Power Supply, Signaling, Civils & etc).

Performance Measurement/KPI’s

Design compliance to requirements, standards and compatibility with safe construction.

Cost effective design and value engineering.

Design progress and approval with respect to budget and programme.

System Engineering and Interfaces resolution.


  • Participate in the track design (drawings, calculations, reports etc.) for all interface issues and ensure optimal design of interfaces

  • Ensuring the Trackwork Design Team in producing parts of the track design (specifications, detailed design)

  • Supervise part of the design from track suppliers

  • Analyse requirements and propose cost effective solutions to the Trackwork Design Team.

  • Provide clear visibility and adequate documents to assist Managers (Calculations, technical reports, BOQ, Variation orders, Claims, reporting, etc.)

  • Consistency and compatibility between all the sub-systems specifications,

  • Efficiency of the transversal studies related to Trackworks (Alignment, Noise & Vibration, Earthing & Bonding…).

Responsible for:

  • Justify proposals in front of track design manager, partners, ALSTOM sub-systems and client if required.

  • Ensure that the Trackwork Design team in preparation track design documents

  • Obtaining approval of technical documents (especially drawings),

  • Bill of Quantities (BOQ) elaboration,

  • Prepare submittals to client and 3rd entities

  • Coordinate with other entities (other ALSTOM activities/ civil work partners…) for the technical aspects of the track interfaces and especially with the civil works.

  • Check sub-contractor and in-house track designs and ensure technical compliance (Ensure application of agreed quality control procedures)

  • Carry out / Support the Factory Acceptance Tests

  • Technical open issues resolution on site, from investigation to modification implementation and problem closure,

  • As-built documentation,

Knowledge & Experience

Educational : Electronic, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree.

Knowledge of Railway System is mandatory.

5 years minimum Interface and System Engineering design experience in railway.

Project and/or construction experience preferred.

Geotechnical and/or structural calculation knowledge as well as track alignment knowledge will be a plus.

Computering skills : Microsoft Office pack, Autocad and MS project

Language: English

Good team spirit and communication skills to manage engineers and CAD operators.

Initiatives, self-motivated for technical matters and speed learning.

Autonomy and rigour.

Ability to adapt to multi-disciplinary environments.
