The Communication Manager is a senior level position in the Communications Management job family. They take their instructions and guidance from a senior manager in the Marketing team.
The primary responsibility of the Communication Manager is to develop and execute communications of a strategic nature, both internally and externally, for Dimension Data and increase awareness of Dimension Data’s strategy, programmes, solutions, services and values by working with senior executives to develop meaningful and engaging content and communications.
What you'll be doing
The Communication Manager works closely with senior executives to advise on the development of key communications messages to drive Dimension Data’s corporate and solutions and services strategy. They ensure that the messages being communicated are not only in line with Dimension Data’s business strategy, but that they are delivered in an engaging way. The Communication Manager ensures consistency in the way the company’s corporate positioning, brand position and value proposition is communicated in region and globally.
The Communication Manager manages the development of all messages and content for internal and external communications and ensures that the content is aligned to business and marketing objectives. They work with key stakeholders in the business to draft announcements and ensure the development and maintenance of corporate collateral, online content, and communication and document templates. These individuals liaise closely with the Branding team on the development of marketing communications initiatives and campaigns.
The Communication Manager manages and advises on the delivery of internal communications to all employees, ensuring the most effective and appropriate channels are used and that messages are aligned and consistent. They ensure the production of all Dimension Data internal communications including announcements, newsletters, videos and corporate collateral. Communication Managers advise on the content for internal events, such as employee update road shows, sales kick offs, and HR related awareness campaigns.
The Communication Manager contributes to developing and executing external communication, where applicable. They work with key stakeholders in the business to draft communications, ensuring that the messages are appropriate for the target audience. Working closely with the Public Relations and Analyst Relations functions, the Communication Manager ensures that all external communications are aligned to our business strategy.
In some Dimension Data geographies, activities such as public relations or advertising may be outsourced to third party vendors. In these instances, the Public Relations Manager and Communication Manager share responsibility for the relationship. In the instance that the geography does not have a Public Relations Manager, the Communication Manager contributes to the management of these vendor contracts, and ensure that messages in the communications are line with the Dimension Data standard.
They liaise with and manage the supplier contract with public relations and advertising agencies and ensure that vendors deliver against the agreed contract. These individuals co-ordinate and manage the briefing process, but may not necessarily be responsible for holding briefing sessions for every activity.
The Communication Manager manages the systems and infrastructure through which the company communicates. This includes the intranet, website as well as the use or marketing automation tools. They develop the strategy for each of these tools and the related methodologies for use of these platforms as a channel of communication.
Marketing Communication Metrics
The Communication Manager ensures the development of measurement tools in relation to communication initiatives and campaigns. They ensure that readership of communications content is tracked and analysed and use the information to implement improvements to communication content and initiatives.
Public Relations Reports
In geographies that do not have a Public Relations Manager, the Communication Manager ensures the compilation and distribution of regular public relations coverage and operations reports to the relevant forums. They review the coverage, analyse metrics and report on share of voice related to the relevant press release.
Communication Managers are responsible for operational management of the communication management team, creating and executing on plans and reporting on team activities in the required forums. By taking responsibility for the development and training of their team members, they ensure that employees reporting to them are engaged and understand their career opportunities. The Communication Manager ensures that his or her team is rewarded and remunerated according to their performance.
The Communication Manager is responsible for the setting of an annual marketing communications budget. They manage budget variations and operational spend against this budget.
The Communication Manager demonstrates good leadership and interpersonal skills and are able to persuade and influence others. They are driven by deadlines and are able to balance this with good attention to detail. They demonstrate the ability to analyse information and have excellent written and verbal communication skills and are able to work with all levels within the organisation. They display commitment to deliver value to internal and external clients and demonstrate strategic thinking ability.
