Job Purpose:

The APAC Senior Accounting Team Leader will oversee General and Specialized Accounting Operations and Account Ownership function as defined by the Global R2R GPO Global Operating Model and Balance Sheet Substantiation GPO. Activities will include origination and processing of all accounting entries, account ownership activities, as well as monitoring Balance Sheer from control perspective.

The SVP also operates as an in-house consultancy unit providing independent technical advice on accounting matters to various FRO units to support high quality accounting operations within the parameters of US GAAP.

Job Background/Context:

Citi Shared Services’ Finance and Risk Operations (FRO) unit provides services to several Asian entities for Citibank. They drive end – to end processing, reporting and analysis of legal entity results.

The APAC Senior Accounting Team Leader is a strategic position within FRO designed in partnership with Finance to support high quality accounting operations within the parameters of US GAAP.

The role offers opportunity to manage a wide range of accounting processes and US GAAP advisory to other FRO units. The Manager will be responsible for performance of a high performing team of about 40-50 senior CPAs/Accountants covering the entire APAC Region.

Critical Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting Processes:

  • Lead the Regional FRO Accounting processes (Fixed Assets, Comp Accounting, Software Cap, etc.)

  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results

  • Fixed assets accounting

  • Identify accounting Policy issues researching technical accounting literature for relevant guidance and prepare detailed documentation supporting conclusions

  • Communicate new and emerging accounting standards and issues to key partners in the regional finance and FRO teams

  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status

  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending

  • Provide technical support and advice on Management accountant

  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures

  • Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance

  • Support month-end and year-end close process

  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles

Account Ownership:

  • Perform Account Ownership (AO) role as defined by Balance Sheet Substantiation(BSS) GPO for accounts which are assigned to FRO. This requires good understanding of underlying business and transaction flow that result in entries into these accounts.

Interface:

  • Interacts with Regional and Corporate Accounting Policy team

  • Interacts with Proof Owners and other BSS monitoring teams as required

  • Support Regional and Local Audits Requests

  • Direct Internal and External Audits to ensure compliance

  • Point of escalation for Country/Business significant issues

  • Provide information to key country partners, Finance, FP&A and countries senior management in order to support their business reviews, LRR, internal audit and Country\Cluster business reviews

  • Anticipate accounting issues and provide technical solutions for business requirements

Controls:

  • Actively Participation in global Internal Audits as well as KPMG audit engagements

  • Establish and maintain appropriate documentation/controls to ensure the integrity of financial, regulatory and management information.

  • Create effective control environment to ensure adherence with all internal and external policies and procedures. Direct and coordinate audits and internal reviews. Establish a process to ensure all necessary reporting functions are operating effectively and efficiently.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Practical Knowledge of the accounting for Financial Instruments under US GAAP and knowledge of Financial Markets.

  • In-depth understanding of business and financial drivers for APAC Countries

  • Proved experience in Accounting lead roles or equivalent experience in Accounting Policy group of a major Financial Institution.

  • Proven career path and progression is required

  • Communication skills: will be interacting with staff at a variety of levels, including very senior audiences, on a variety of internally driven and function driven deliverables. The ability to articulate 'big picture' and present to senior management is essential.

  • Organizational Skills: heavy coordination with many individuals at varying levels across the region and FRO functions, operating with precision within limited time frames on deliverables. The individual must be highly organized and able to prioritize in an environment of change while always seeking to improve the organization and business.

  • Teamwork/Relationship Management: the position requires extensive teamwork, partnership and collaboration across Finance and FRO functions

  • Ability to manage and develop Finance talent

  • Experience in Citi reporting processes or Product processing group will be an added advantage.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Accounting, CPA is a plus

  • 10+ years’ experience as a senior finance officer in a global organization
