Job Background/Context:

As a Sr. Business Analyst & Project Lead for Workday Implementation for payroll, you will be part of delivering solutions that will support HR2020 Strategy execution.

The Workday Sr. Business Analyst & Project Lead (Asia) will work on HRMS migration to Workday platform, security and maintenance of employee data specifically focusing on payroll reqts. And related activities. Proposes features, changes and improvements to ensure HRMS capabilities fulfill the people needs of the organization. Key Focus Area is to support project implementation particularly payroll-impacting transactions as well as support planning and preparation for various workday reqts.

Key activities includes pay elements and process standardization and streamlining while working with various global and product work streams in order to maintain the integrity of existing structure, security, and data and ensure seamless implementation. This resource will likewise be working in partnership w/ our regional cluster leads and SMEs, payroll country teams and Workday consultants to deliver w/in timelines set globally and regionally.

Job Purpose:

This is a management role reporting into the HRSS Asia Regional Lead for Payroll, Acctg. And Comp. & Ben. Lead and will be part of Workday Project team as payroll product representative. The jobholder will be responsible for ensuring the effective and seamless implementation for Asia payroll.

The job includes but are not limited to:

  • Work as part of a Workday Implementation team for Asia

  • Engage with key business stakeholders in the region and around the world to build various components of Workday functionality

  • Drive process and pay elements standardization and align w/ future global operating model

  • Work with Solution Architects to review current state process and develop future-state processes including enhancements or break-fixes

  • Solution design review w/ the implementation team and Workday consultants

  • Write process documentation including, but not limited to business process documentation reqts., automation specifications, and test plans

  • Deploy Workday functionality, enhancements, and improvements

  • Help solve problems by processing HR/HRSS data to enable advanced analytics that can drive faster decision making

  • Assists in determining global design for system implementation or upgrades by consulting with various global and product workstreams, payroll, HR, managers and process owners

  • Partner with HR/HRSS, Recruiting & Onboarding, Systems, Employee Life cycle, Compensation and Benefits and Payroll on workday-related activities

  • Manage standardization of wage-types/ pay elements, processes, inputs and various reports for payroll

  • Use feedback from end-user community to prioritize needs and create appropriate HR2020 Systems strategies

  • Conduct testing and escalate employee and system issues including error messages, login difficulties, access denials, data issues and process failures

  • Manage escalated Workday requests; partner with global workstreams and follow-up as necessary to ensure high satisfaction

  • Champion Product initiatives and promote the use and standardization of HR2020 technology across the organization

  • Maintain effective working relationships with payroll vendor partners in support of cost-effective solutions, align w/ vendor’s system reqts. And process changes needed for implementation

  • Share knowledge of current HRMS trends; regularly communicate thought leadership to HR partners and senior leaders

  • Research and propose modifications to system security to ensure data integrity and system stability to align with Citi policies particularly Information security and data privacy.

  • Assists in gathering and documenting business requirements and specifications and assists in completing testing as needed.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Overall coordinator for payroll and functions as the Sr. Project lead for payroll product implementation working w/ regional cluster leads

  • Documents reporting needs; looks for opportunities to develop and streamline reporting; works with IT and end users to allow more self-service reporting; trains users as needed

  • Elicit and document user requirements to meet a business objective. Identify and validate requirements and organize the information into a logical document using business analysis models that is understood by various products / process-owners and Information Systems

  • Mentor less experienced business systems analysts

  • Alignment w/ global and regional Change management governance incl. coordination and communication w/ in-country teams

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Strong team-building and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Detail-oriented and problem-solving skills.

  • 5+ years of experience working with HR information systems

  • Workday Certification highly regarded

  • Advanced experience with HR information systems in particular with Workday

  • Strong track record of overseeing practical, solution-driven and value-add initiatives & HR processes

  • Strategic perspective with tactical implementation skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and data accuracy when handling employee information

  • Knowledge of HR policies, laws and regulations

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and Visio

  • Multi-country project experience in Asia and global projects implementation experience


  • Bachelors in Comp Sci, BA, or related OR 10-15 yrs work-related exp.

  • IT Business Analysis Experience (6-10 years)

  • MS Visio and MS Project (4 years)

  • Experience on a global or regional systemts migration project moving from an existing HRMS to 'Workday' (2 years)

  • Experience working on a global migration project of 10,000+ Records


  • Workday and HRMS Experience (Highly desired) (2 years)

  • Sr. BA Experience in a Matrix Environment (Highly desired)

  • Detailed understanding of terms and conditions and relevant legislation
