Description

Position Purpose

Employees in this job participate in various analytical laboratory support activities intended for specific testing and deployment of new analytical procedures. The job function requires application of technical principles and know-how related to laboratory procedures, methodologies, practices and use of laboratory equipment and instrumentation. He/ She must be aware on the criticality of the position and the impact of one’s job in relation to the organization. This position is empowered to provide scientific based decision based on laboratory procedural activities and technical knowledge. He/ She is a recognized expert in a given area and can provide technical assistance to other departments.

In essence, the QA Laboratory Analyst function ensures accuracy and precise analytical results to assess conformance of raw materials and finished products via the utilization of correct analytical methodologies.

Responsibilities

Analysis of raw materials and finished products to determine and assess conformance basis the company’s Quality specifications. This involves the use of various approved Cargill Animal Nutrition methodologies and laboratory equipment including but not limited to the following:

  • Flash EA 1112 Crude protein Analyzer

  • Ancom / Soxtec Fat Analyzer

  • Mycotoxin kits using ELISA and Lateral flow technologies (Gold labeled Antibody embedded on the strip)

  • Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer

  • UV-Vis Spectrophotometer

  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography

  • Ankom Fiber Analyzer

The job also requires deployment of new methods approved by the Global Laboratory Safety Team including Nutrient Enhancement Parameters. This involves fitness for purpose study of the method and determination of scope applicability of the procedure being established. Basis the data obtained, the analyst interprets the chemical results using various statistical tools to determine accuracy and precision (Technical Report Generation)

Southeast Asia NIR laboratories (Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, India) wet chemistry analytical services support to validate and expand NIR calibrations. Function includes coordination of samples from origin to destination, performance of required sample preparation, handling from receiving, retention to disposal, analyses, quality control of results, generation of Certificates of Analysis, communication of results and timely generation and coordination of necessary billings.

Cargill Premix and Nutrition (CPN Philippines) wet chemistry analytical testing support in providing value added services to their clients and quality assurance programs.

  • Maintain and upkeep laboratory instruments, chemicals, and glassware. Implementation of preventive maintenance on all equipment being utilized in the laboratory and regular updating of chemical / glassware inventory. He/ She is expected to conduct minor troubleshooting on equipment handled depending on his/ her assigned task. Collaborates with the laboratory supervisor in ensuring no outages of items critical in the laboratory operations.

  • Ensures safety and order in the laboratory through constant reporting of unsafe condition, participating actively as members or leaders of laboratory safety committee and all safety programs and provides safety recommendations for safety innovations and improvements and being safety champions ensuring compliance to CAN minimum laboratory safety expectations.

  • Implementation of QA Programs such as Drug Trax, LIMS data gathering, HACCP analytical tests and module requirements and control sample analysis.

  • Application of good sample management that involves proper recording of sample identification, sample retention up to discard. He/ She is co-accountable on all samples submitted for analysis the wet chemistry section. Accurate and timely generation of billings to laboratory clients availing of laboratory services.

  • Ensures that Laboratory Balance Score Card requirements such as Turnaround Time, Quality and Safety Audits, ICSP Check sample program are being met on a timely manner.

The position entails constant updating on current trends and developments in the practice of analytical, quantitative and qualitative chemistry from wet chemistry to instrumental methods of analysis.

The position also requires knowledge of statistical techniques as a means to determine accuracy of results. He/ She should be fully aware of the policies related to his/ her work and the legalities should product being tested fails quality specification.

The position requires an employee to be exposed to hazardous work environments. He/ She should be aware that there are some analytical tests that involve exposure to chemicals that are health hazard

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy and related courses

  • 1 year experience working in laboratory set up

  • Knowledgeable in various chemicals and wet chemistry test and instruments. He / She should have a strong problem solving, decision-making, and organization skills.

  • He / She should have an ability to recognize patterns in the analyses being undertaken in the laboratory that will serve as a tool for proactive spotting of problems in quality

  • He / She knows various software programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

  • He / She should have strong attention to details

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy and related courses

  • 3 years working experience in a laboratory set up

  • He / She should have a professional license

  • He / She should have an ability to recognize patterns in analyses being undertaken in the laboratory that will serve as a tool for proactive spotting of problems in quality

  • He / She knows various software programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

  • He / She should have strong attention to details

  • Hands-on experience on the following laboratory analytical instruments: High Performance Liquid Chromatographer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, CP analyzers using Dumas Method, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer
