As a Japanese Analyst within the BDS, you will contribute as part of a team involved in a number of activities to support our international benefits offerings including:

  • Managing our global benefits survey database activities and production of reports used for project and research based work

  • Managing the global coordination of benefits for our international clients

  • Coordinating the placement of benefits for our clients in key international markets

The Role

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and have excellent data manipulation skills. Candidates will likely have a primary focus on one of the three areas above but will have exposure to and opportunities to work across all three.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop technical knowledge of benefits plans around the world

  • Develop data, process and project management skills

Key Activities

Data management and reporting activities

  • Actively participate in the data collection planning and preparation process

  • Work with survey management service coordinator and other team members to upload benefits survey data to general and client-specific databases

  • Collect plan design and financial data and input into inventory tool

  • Perform data validation and processing work using agreed upon tools, standards and techniques

  • Produce validation queries following standards and workflow

  • Develop and review data discrepancy reports

  • Develop data field calculations

  • Assist users with system and provide ongoing technical support

  • Compile global benefits management reporting and consolidation

  • Support the production of benefits reporting publications

Process, project and transaction management

  • Support global benefits coordination processes

  • Support benefits contract renewal processes between clients and insurance vendors

  • Support benefits eligibility and enrollment processes

  • Support claims management and tracking processes

  • Support benefit audit processes

  • Support interactions between clients, WTW and insurance vendors

Performance Objectives: These relate to the Willis Towers Watson scorecard and objectives for the role


  • Apply practice specific technology and provide high quality services to internal and external Willis Towers Watson clients

  • Perform data validation and processing work using agreed upon tools, standards and techniques, including self-checking work and following review processes

  • Significant attention to detail and excellent data manipulation skills

  • Provide input on product and process improvements


  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on teams both in the office and virtually across regions

  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with associates in other Willis Towers Watson offices


  • Work with Team Leader to ensure that each project is completed on time and meets quality standards

  • Respond to all requests and communications effectively and efficiently

  • Increase efficiency within client teams by identifying ways to improve processes

  • Monitors project progress, developing solutions for overcoming obstacles

  • Maintaining accurate time records

The Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a program with heavy emphasis on mathematics or business

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Experience with data validation and manipulation in data management tools (advanced Excel skills are essential)

  • Ability to review and check data against subject domain knowledge (e.g., health and group benefits) and understand the data’s applicability/accuracy for the designated purpose

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to ask the right questions and seek help where appropriate

  • Strong client service orientation

  • Working within tight deadlines; balancing time across multiple, simultaneous projects that may involve different procedures and project team members

  • Collaboration with a global team, include taking accountability for quality and on-time delivery of own work and involving other team members when appropriate

  • Structured problem solving and analytical thinking

  • Continuous improvement mindset – increasing task efficiency and effectiveness with each product or service repetition

  • Previous benefits or insurance experience a plus

  • Proficiency in English required, proficiency in one additional language preferred
